Most evidently, the second Readers Choice Survey and Awards has provided us once again with unique insights into the readers views on sustainability reporting s effectiveness . New this year was the creation of a Reporters Survey in order to compare readers and reporters objectives in reporting . Some of the main questions that were asked in the surveys were why should an organization report? , do you consider reporting to be green wash? and is sustainability reporting actually affecting real change? In response to the first question, the content partners interpreted the results as follows: both readers and reporters are in agreement that the purpose of sustainability reporting is to improve performance . Over 70% of both respondents agree the primary reason to report is to account for an organization s sustainability performance . Improving internal processes was a close second choice, selected by 75% of readers and 65% of reporters . In response to the second question, the content partners drew the following conclusion: no, reporting is clearly not considered to be green wash . They found that 90% of all readers strongly disagree, demonstrating that robust reporting is a trusted information channel . Even more so, they concluded that sustainability reporting is actually building trust . The survey outcomes showed that the top factors for increasing trust included presenting robust data which proves progress, having a track record of actual actions, and having clear link between sustainability and an organization s core strategies . In response to the third question, the content partners concluded that sustainability reporting changes both the reporter and the reader . When done effectively, 98% of readers agree that reporting improves an organization s performance over time . Also, half of the readers surveyed agreed they use reporting to inform decisions to invest/divest in the organization , over half of the readers also use the information they read to decide on a purchase, service or relationship with that organization, and 41% stated that reporting affects their consumer behavior . The Survey Factsheet, a joint effort of the content partners which was presented during the session, highlights a selection of the main findings . In the fall of 2010, this top line factsheet will be joined by a Survey Report that will provide an in depth analysis of the opinion and characteristics of today s readers and reporters .

I vincitori sono Banco do Brasil, Banco Bradesco, Vale e Natura Cosmeticos (tutti brasiliani) . The GRI Readers Choice Awards are not decided by a group of experts judging reports against criteria - they represent the voice of a wide spectrum of stakeholders- readers who have thought about the quality of reporting, who have been engaged by the reporters and who want to have their say . This is the essence of the Readers Choice Awards - it is stakeholder engagement: employees, investors, suppliers, distributors, consumers - and not least company managers . The GRI Readers Choice Awards has generated far more interest and attention from around the world with twice as many participants in 2010 than the first edition in 2008 . Readers from 55 countries voted on the shortlisted reports . In 2008, Europeans were the largest regional group of participants followed by the Asia-Pacific region and the Americas . In 2010, European enthusiasm is undiminished but we ve seen significant growth in interest from India, the USA, China, Argentina, Greece, and Italy . However, the big news is a huge growth in participation from Brazil . Readers that took part in the Readers Choice Awards Survey chose reports that exemplified just those qualities in a report that they thought were important . As such, these votes have been cast for reasons, and the analysis of those reasons has been a fascinating exercise . Solitaire Townsend (Co-founder of Futerra) finds that Brazilian reporters have raised the bar for everyone and looks forward to seeing other reporting countries pulling a Brazilian the next time . Ernst Ligteringen (CE Global Reporting Initiative) is pleased with the enthusiasm of the Brazilian reporters and readers in the Readers Choice Awards and Survey, but nevertheless stresses that sustainability reporting from organizations from other regions is also to be acknowledged . Sam Turnbull (Marketing Director, ACCA) says that although it is evident that Brazil is leading in terms of attracting a massive voting population, other countries are following closely .

The agreement is intended to provide companies in the Global Compact with a clear set of reporting principles and indicators to meet the initiative s compulsory annual disclosure requirement, also known as the Communication on Progress . The GRI Reporting Framework is applicable to organizations of all sectors, sizes and regions and also offers a series of supplements developed to address sector-specific circumstances and challenges . The two initiatives enter into this new alignment to further develop their combined strengths - the Global Compact s strategic advancement of key sustainability issues, and GRI s reporting framework . In addition to creating a reporting framework that will be implemented universally, the new collaboration is also intended to provide a benchmark for financial analysts and other stakeholders to better analyze and identify risks and opportunities as they relate to environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues . "As corporate responsibility has moved into the mainstream of business strategy and operations, the convergence of the two corporate responsibility initiatives with the broadest reach is a crucial development," said Georg Kell, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact . "Together, the Global Compact and GRI have a unique opportunity to provide a clear roadmap to sustainability and change business practices on a global scale . ""The agreed collaboration, combining the expertise and efforts of GRI and the UN Global Compact, will allow us to significantly extend our outreach and support an increasing number of companies and stakeholders around the world which seek to improve their sustainability performance," added Ernst Ligteringen, GRI s Chief Executive . About the United Nations Global CompactLaunched in 2000, the United Nations Global Compact is a call to companies around the world to align their strategies and operations with ten universal principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of broader UN goals . Through the development, implementation, and disclosure of responsible corporate policies and practices, business can help ensure that markets advance in ways that benefit economies and societies everywhere . VOLCAN COMPAÑIA MINERA 27-05-2010 : VOLCAN COMPAÑIA MINERA : Nuovi risultati d asta - concentrati di zinco e piombo Copyright (C) Hugin |
|
Volcan Compañía Minera S . A . All are based on CIF Main Asian Port delivery terms . These figures do not show an increase of the TCs together with basis prices as would have been expected . Compared to last tenders called at current price levels, these results show an improvement in favor of the miners . Current scenario for Peruvian market brings a higher Cajamarquilla Zinc Refinery concentrate consumption, shipment bottlenecks on Callao port, and widespread expectation on the unfolding of La Oroya plant s fate .
